As we embrace 2025, a year symbolising transformation and renewal in the Chinese Zodiac (the Year of the Wood Snake), Reading sets the stage for a busy calendar of events. Whether you’re a local, a visitor, or looking for reasons to explore this bustling town, 2025 is brimming with activities to inspire, entertain and connect.

Let’s explore Reading’s event highlights month by month, with something for everyone.

January: Comedy in Woodcote

Why not kick off the year with a belly full of laughs at Laughter Craft Comedy’s event in Woodcote? Combine three fantastic TV comedians and a licensed bar and there’s really no chance of a bad time. As it stands, the night will feature Rob Rouse (Live at the Apollo, 8 out of 10 Cats), Jack Skipper (Social Media Sensation) and Laughter Craft’s very own Jonathon Elston as MC.

February: The Month for Trying Everything

February in Reading literally has something for everyone. NFL fans can catch the Super Bowl screening at Phantom Brewing Co., featuring craft beers and food for an electric game night. Art lovers can explore a fusion of movement and sketching at Jelly’s Contemporary Dance Life Drawing sessions.

Valentine’s Day brings themed events, from dining specials to creative workshops, while venues like The Hexagon and South Street showcase gobsmacking performances, comedy, and live music.

Sheesh! February in Reading really has a lot going on.

March: Warmer Weather Walking Tours!

March is a great time to be in Reading. There will be a variety of activities and events to enjoy including exploring historical sites, such as Reading Abbey and Highclere Castle, home to the “Downton Abbey” series! Both offer fascinating tours.

If you’re interested in cultural experiences, the Bayeux Tapestry replica at Reading Museum is a must-see, along with a visit to the Museum of English Rural.

More of a foodie than a history buff? Check out Forbury Gardens which will host the Blue Collar Street Food Market a great way to enjoy lunch with a selection of local food stalls.

April: Craft Beer and Food Festival

I think we’ll all gladly raise a pint to the announcement of South Street Arts & Dolphin Brewery’s April Craft Beer and Food Festival! The event will host several of the finest breweries from across the UK such as Siren, Double Barrelled and Phantom. Beer enthusiasts will receive a branded glass along with their ticket. In addition to the great beers to fill it, you will be treated to some fabulous food stalls.

May: Blooming Brilliant Spring Walks

When in Reading, walkers are spoilt for choice. With over 100 parks and gardens within its boundaries, there is no shortage of green. Enjoy a stroll along the Thames Path National Trail or venture off to Prospect Park, Forbury Gardens, Harris Gardens or Caversham Court to name a few. All will feature the marvellous happenings of Spring!

June: Water Fest at Reading Abbey Ruins

Expected to return for a 36th year, Water Fest is Reading’s opportunity to show off and celebrate the Kennet and Avon Canal, as well as the many historic spots found along the towpath. Brought to you by the Reading Borough Council for one day only, this event offers the perfect opportunity to slow down for a moment and connect with Reading’s rich history and lively canal-community.

July: Bastille Day Festival

Calling all Francophiles! Delicious French food, live music, pétanque tournaments — need we say more? You’re probably thinking “Wine yay. Oh, but what about the kids?”. Great news, this event usually includes several family-friendly activities such as storytelling sessions and French-themed games. You can come and get your cake and eat it too at this little slice of Paris in the heart of Berkshire.

August: Reading Festival 2025

Reading Festival 2024 was a major musical highlight of the year. It delivered on every level with edgy and eclectic artists like Blink 182, Lana Del Rey and Fred Again performing both fan favourites and new material. If the 2024 Reading Festival is anything to go by, 2025 is going to be a banger. We’d recommend keeping your August calendar clear until the official dates are released for this rite of passage festival. We’ll certainly be keeping our eyes peeled for updates.

September: Reading Pride

Reading’s Pride Festival never fails to bring the vibes. 2024 kicked off with a full line-up of entertainment across several stages, a funfair and family area, and a wide range of food and drink stalls. A true celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, this festival is an opportunity to embrace identity and individuality, and to show support for every member of the town of Reading.

October: Autumn Festivals & Halloween Fun

This is the perfect time of year to return to the gardens. And although the scenery really is lovely, out motivations for suggesting a brisk walk lie in our stomachs. Reading boasts many inns and pubs that offer exceptional seasonal menus in Autumn. With items like venison casserole and homemade pies on offer, you’ll be glad you went on that walk beforehand!

If you’re looking for a special something to get you into the Halloween spirit, why not try out the Reading Scarecrow Halloween Trail or sign up for a Deadlocked Escape Room. With no shortage of Halloween-themed events across town, we have no doubt that next year will be even more horrifyingly fun than 2024!

November: Bonfire Night Extravaganza

Celebrate Guy Fawkes Night with dazzling firework displays across Reading. Venues like Prospect Park host bonfires, fairground rides and live entertainment, creating a magical evening for all ages. Grab a toffee apple and marvel at the night sky lit up in vibrant colours.

December: Festive Cheer and Winter Walks

The holiday season truly transforms Reading into a winter wonderland. We know everyone says that about every town in England, but we really mean it. Enjoy twinkling Christmas lights in Broad Street and festive markets selling unique gifts and treats.

Take a wintry walk along the Thames Path or warm up with mulled wine at a local pub. And don’t miss the Candlelight Carol Service at Reading Minster — it’s a beautiful way to wrap up the year.

All Year Round: Reading Open Air Cinema

Experience movie magic under the English sky with Reading’s Open Air Cinema series. Usually held in parks and gardens across the town this event features a range of classics and blockbusters in the perfect outdoor setting. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and cosy up with friends or family for what we think is a rather grand evening. Film selections and dates vary so keep an eye on their socials to catch your favourites or try a new genre for a change.
